RELIEF STONE CABINET Six Door

Made entirely of soapstone, this monumental cabinet is composed of three stacking units and rests on a wooden pallet-like base which elevates it while transferring its considerable weight to integrated leveling feet. A process of relief milling removes unnecessary weight from each panel while leaving triangular shaped structural ribs to retain the strength of each panel. Custom hardware allows the larger stone barrel hinges to open effortlessly despite the load they carry.

The Relief Stone Cabinet is a Limited Edition work designed and produced by Fort Standard’s designer Gregory Buntain. These limited works provide a more focused avenue for exploration allowing a deeper dive into personal interests without the broader constraints of standard furnishings. While maintaining a functional use within the context of the home, these works often push natural materials and processes outside of their normal context and beyond conventional use.
