WATER CUT LAMPS
Cut from thick slabs of Roman travertine, these small table lamps preserve the distinctive vertical marks left behind by the waterjet cutting process, allowing a surface normally polished away to not only remain visible but be celebrated. The lamps play with the unexpected duality of water - typically associated with softness and flow, yet also a force capable of cutting through stone.
Individual sections are stack-laminated to create a range of heights, then worked by hand to connect and enhance the water-cut texture across the elongated forms. The resulting surface is a dialogue between an industrial machining process and the subtle touch of the human hand.
Each stone form is topped with a small warm globe, casting a low, intimate glow akin to candlelight. The lamps are finished with a precision-machined brass switch, hand-stamped leather base, and twisted cloth cord.
